Crosses of Light Sussex with Brown Sussex led to the production of the Brussbar, from original matings of Barred Rocks and Brown Sussex. Breeders of autosexing poultry felt that Brussbars were among the best dual-purpose birds in their inventory, however they never had a significant following. Standardised in 1952, the Brussbar – along with a number of other autosexing breeds – is beginning to gather interest. That said, the birds at – and from – Cobthorn are the only known pure flock.
